The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Alausa, has commissioned a modern library at the Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State, constructed under the Tertiary Education Trust Fund 2025 Annual Intervention.

The construction of the library, which began in 2021, was completed under the administration of the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Muazu Abubakar.

The facility has a capacity for 1,100 students and is equipped with internet facilities to enhance teaching and learning.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony on Tuesday, the minister, who was represented by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Muazu Abubakar, said the library was constructed to ease teaching and learning in the institution.

He said, “This library was constructed with a view to bringing a source of research to the doorstep of the learning students of the University and even beyond.”

The Minister stressed that the library, which includes relevant sections, shelves, and internet facilities, was designed to facilitate the development of educated and productive future generations for the country.

In his address, the Vice Chancellor said the library would be a significant addition to the education sector, benefiting not only the host community but the entire nation.

He said, “Education is an opener for all successes in human endeavour.

“It is a lack of education that causes many of the security challenges bedevilling our state and country at large.

“Illiteracy remains the central source of crimes and criminal activities, including banditry, kidnapping, and other groups disturbing the peace and tranquillity of our great nation.

“This is why my administration prioritized human-building projects, among which this completed library is a key achievement.”

In a related development, a 200-capacity lecture theatre for Agricultural Science and an extension block of the Faculty of Science, both built under the TETFUND 2025/2026 Annual Intervention, were also commissioned.

The projects were commissioned by the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Arc. Sonny Echono, and the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Professor Yusufu Ribadu, respectively.
