In a significant move aimed at fostering innovation and development, the Benson Idahosa University (BIU) last week played host to the Ambassador of the State of Israel to Nigeria, Ambassador Micheal Freeman.
The occasion was the 5th Edition of the University’s International Idea Leadership Exchange (ILIX), a forum designed to bridge global ideas with local talent.
During the programme, Ambassador Freeman unveiled a series of groundbreaking international and cross-continental collaborations between Israel and the university.
The partnerships are set to span several critical fields, leveraging Israeli expertise to address key challenges.
The announced collaborations include: Solar Energy with the Faculty of Engineering, GreenHouse Technology with the Faculty of Agriculture and Agricultural Technologies, Medical Innovations with the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences & College of Medicine.
Addressing a captivated audience of students, faculty, and dignitaries, Ambassador Freeman underscored the transformative potential of the initiatives and the role of the student body. He issued a powerful charge, framing their education and institution as a catalyst for continental change.
“What you have is a dream…a dream that can change Nigeria and Africa,” the Ambassador declared, urging students to embrace the opportunities presented by these new partnerships.
The announcement marks a substantial step in strengthening bilateral ties between Nigeria and Israel in the education and technology sectors.
The collaborations are expected to provide BIU students and researchers with access to cutting-edge technology, research methodologies, and international expertise in sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and healthcare.
University officials expressed optimism that the partnerships will not only enhance the institution’s academic offerings but also contribute practically to national and continental development goals, turning the “dream” referenced by the Ambassador into a tangible reality.
