The Al-Muhibbah Open University has matriculated 365 students into its various academic programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The Chancellor of the university, Dr Aisha Bala Mohammed, who spoke at the event at the International Conference Centre, Bauchi, urged the students to embrace hard work and discipline to excel in their academic pursuits.
Dr Aisha Bala Mohammed reaffirmed the university’s commitment to providing a conducive learning environment, warning against involvement in drug abuse and any other form of indiscipline.
“As we matriculate, students remember the purpose for which they are in the university. Focus on your studies and obey rules and regulations. We will not tolerate indiscipline. Open Distance and e-learning afford you the opportunity to study with flexibility, combining your studies with other activities. You must learn extra skills to prepare yourself for the challenges ahead. It is my prayer that you will learn, graduate, and become good ambassadors of Al-Muhibbah Open University. Take your studies seriously and make your parents and sponsors proud”.
“We are projecting into a challenging future and times, so therefore we must brace up to position the university as a globally recognized and competitive agency”.
“The Board of Trustees, the Governing Council, the Management, and staff have been playing a significant role in strengthening the institution and providing the desired leadership. While I commend you for living up to expectation, I wish to urge you to keep the standard high so we can meet the level of global best practice, where our service and product will know no bounds”.
She commended the National Universities Commission and the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), particularly for their encouragement and support, stressing that they will continue to nurture the collaboration and abide by the University regulations designed to improve the systems and credibility of the institution.
Dr Aisha also thanked the Government of Bauchi State for the Scholarship offered to some students in the University, adding that the university will work to ensure that the students are given the best attention and service they desire
Also speaking, the Chairman Governing Council of the University, Professor Yahuza Bello, congratulated the new students who gained admission into Al-Muhibbah Open University, saying that it is a privilege and responsibility.
“You are fortunate to be among the pioneering generation of a young, vibrant, and forward-looking institution that is committed to academic excellence, character development, and service to society”.
“However, with this opportunity comes an obligation. You must justify the sacrifices and vision of Her Excellency and all those who have laboured to make this University a reality. This can only be achieved through diligence, discipline, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to your studies. Avoid distractions that may derail your academic journey, uphold the values of hard work and moral uprightness, and strive for excellence in all that you do”.
“Equally important, you must conduct yourselves as worthy ambassadors of Al-Muhibbah Open University wherever you may find yourselves—within the campus, in your communities, and in the wider society. Let your character, knowledge, and service reflect the noble ideals upon which this institution was founded”.
“As a university, we remain committed to providing you with a conducive learning environment, competent academic guidance, and opportunities that will prepare you not only for employment but for leadership, innovation, and meaningful contribution to national development. Education, especially in an open and inclusive system such as ours, is a powerful tool for transformation, empowerment, and social progress,” he said.
He appreciated Parents and guardians for the trust they have placed in the institution as well as the sacrifices they continue to make for the education of their children, pointing out that their support remains indispensable to their success.
In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Dr Ibrahim Hassan, said that the university offered admission to 365 students into the Faculties of Arts, Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Computing, and Allied Health Sciences, adding that currently, the university has over 500 students enrolled in various programs across undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
He noted that the move reflects the university’s growth from four faculties to five faculties, from 14 undergraduate programs to 20 undergraduate programs and 5 postgraduate programs.
According to him, “I would also like to proudly announce that out of the 14 initial programs, 12 have last year undergone accreditation by the Nigerian University Commission and have gotten full accreditation’.
“I would like to use this opportunity to express my deep appreciation to the Bauchi State Government for their generous sponsorship of 200 students. This gesture is not only a significant contribution to the growth of Al-Muhibbah Open University but also a model for other stakeholders to follow. Let us all be inspired by this example and work together to support the growth of our dear university and the expansion of our enrolment drive. Every contribution, whether it be in the form of sponsorship, mentorship, or resource sharing, plays a vital role in building a more educated and empowered Nigeria”.
“Today’s event is important because it marks the official enrolment of the matriculating students into Al-Muhibbah Open University’s academic program, and in line with the approval of the National Universities Commission. It is with great joy that I welcome all the students into the University. I trust that God will use this University to nurture your growth and development in all facets of life. I congratulate your parents for the central roles they have played in your lives. It is my prayer that their labour will not be in vain”.
